Nikon Corporation , also known as Nikon , is a Japanese multinational corporation based in Tokyo, Japan, specializing in optical and imaging products.

Its products include cameras, lenses, binoculars, microscopes, eye lenses, measuring instruments and steppers, which are used in photolithographic steps in the manufacture of semiconductors, the second largest manufacturer in the world. The companies owned by Nikon form the Nikon Group. Its products include Nikkor imaging lenses (for F-mount cameras, large format photos, photo magnifiers and other applications), Nikon F-series 135 film SLRs, Nikon D-series digital SLRs, Coolpix compact digital series cameras and a series of Nikonos underwater film cameras. Nikon's main competitors in the production of cameras and lenses are Canon, Sony, Pentax and Olympus.

The company, founded on July 25, 1917 as Nippon Kōgaku Kōgyō Kabushikigaisha , was renamed Nikon Corporation in 1988 after its cameras. Nikon is one of the Mitsubishi Group companies.
